Nearly 25,000 households in southeastern Queensland were left without power on Monday morning after powerful weather events swept through the state, bringing wind gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Large Ice Stones and Broad Impact

Homeowners observed giant hailstones reaching sizes of 7cm in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been impacted by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, around one thousand households in the southern state also faced energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services responded to over five hundred requests for assistance across the region, primarily for structural issues but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• The Werribee area - experienced significant storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing area - various rescue reports
• Wyndham - over 175 emergency requests

At one point on the previous day, in excess of twenty-eight thousand power users in the state were lacking electricity.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were forecast to persist along large portions of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

The following day was forecast to be the most rainy day, with persistent storm activity predicted across multiple regions of both areas.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, specifically given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the area.
