Ex British Serviceman Charged of Murdering Kenyan Woman Appears in Court

An individual has shown up before a judge as deportation processes commenced in the legal matter of Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan national, a female from Kenya who was murdered near a UK military installation in the year 2012.

Robert Purkiss, 38 years old, who is originally from the Manchester area, was presented at Westminster magistrates court on the last Friday, and informed the court he would challenge the deportation. It is understood that he was detained on the evening of Thursday.

An arrest warrant for the defendant was authorized by a Nairobi court in September. The prosecution told the Kenyan court that the accused had been facing a one count, of killing, and that the government of Kenya would seek his extradition to answer to accusations.

The defendant was once employed as a medic with the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, the army unit for the northwestern England, including on deployments in Afghanistan.

The victim, twenty-one, a hairdresser who had a young daughter, vanished after a night on the town, and her corpse was located two months later in the area of the lodging where she had last been seen.

Not a single person had earlier been arrested or charged in connection to her death. Purkiss’s arrest came after a recent detective probe, which was initiated after a exposé in the year 2021 by the Sunday Times, in which the media outlet reached out to several serving and ex-military personnel in the regiment.

The probe has been led by detectives in Kenya, which, under a bilateral defence agreement, retains jurisdiction in the legal case.
