Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by three suspects, with one opened fire on him before escaping on foot.
The purpose of the shooting remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Police indicated that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a premises close to the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the property supervising the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, it was reported.
"The report indicates the victim was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," a police statement confirmed.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a security uniform shooting on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries across the street.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and it was not a robbery during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the scene.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.
"We know they traveled on foot after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to establish their location," added an official.
Family and Public Reaction
His sister, Nicole Stock, said the family was struggling to process his death.
"I am devastated. I am shattered," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were prepared to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."
She appealed to the public to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the incident, saying this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that was broadcast on a South African TV network.
In addition to his media career, Stock was active in various business ventures, including private security, supplying elite guarding services and managing safety for prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in building administration and assisted with tenant removals.

A senior figure remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's killing.
"He spoke his truth without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my policies as a public official. He was a shining model of who we should be," the minister added.
A political leader commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a trauma for all South Africans".
A media executive expressed that "DJ Warras was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a skilled narrator, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought happiness and vitality to every appearance. His commitment to his craft left an indefinable mark."
In a release, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will endure".
