Around Twelve historical artefacts have been ceremoniously given back to the Ethiopian nation following staying by a household from Germany for more than a century.

These treasures, first collected in the 1920s by the German representative to Ethiopia Franz Weiss and his spouse his partner, were handed over on this past Wednesday to the research center at Addis Ababa University.

This set featured headpieces, protective shields and canvases, all regarded as culturally important in Ethiopia.

"These treasures continue to represent a mark of the long-standing and amicable ties between the German nation and the Ethiopian people," stated Germany's envoy, the envoy to Ethiopia.

Professor Ramon Wyss, whose parent was born during the household's assignment in the nation, presented the items at a ceremony joined by the Minister of Tourism the tourism official.

He explained that the household's aim to restore the items was to "share their splendor with the audience and maintain the heritage and history connected to my parent's origin."

These artefacts were either gifts or purchases, as stated by the relatives.

"We would like to express gratitude to Professor Weiss's relatives for actively showing their profound appreciation for Ethiopia by meticulously preserving these artifacts and vitally securing their return to their legitimate country," said the minister of tourism.

She added that the items would soon be made accessible to the public for study and academic study, terming the action a milestone in preserving Ethiopia's cultural heritage.

"Initiatives persist to bring back ancient artifacts that are held in the possession of individuals and entities all over the world," the minister affirmed.

In the era of colonial rule in Africa, thousands of historical items were plundered.

The request by the continent's states for the return of looted artefacts has been responded to by some success in the past few years - even if several items are merely on temporary return.

Back in two years ago, the German government was the initial nation to repatriate some of the famous historical items to the Nigerian people as part of an effort to address its "dark colonial history."
