The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
